KRG Capital Partners Promotes Four Team Members, Hires New Vice President
DENVER, Colorado (May 2, 2012) – KRG Capital Partners (“KRG”), one of the largest Denver-based buyout firms, is pleased to announce the promotion of four investment professionals and the recent hiring of an additional Vice President. “Having recently celebrated the firm’s 16 year anniversary, we’re proud to say our firm continues to provide upward opportunities for talented professionals seeking a long-term career in private equity, and new opportunities for those looking to join the industry,” said Mark King, Managing Director and Co-Founder of KRG.
Mr. Damon Judd joined the most senior ranks of the firm as a newly named Managing Director while Messrs. Michael Barkin, Colton King and Bennett Thompson were promoted to Principal. “These four gentlemen have been a part of the KRG team for an average of six years,” said Bruce Rogers, Managing Director and Co-Founder of KRG. “The experience they have gained investing with us through some very dynamic as well as challenging economic cycles will serve the firm well as they continue taking on more responsibilities here at KRG.”
In addition to the recent promotions, KRG has also brought on Ms. E. Sue Cho as a Vice President. “Sue brings a wealth of prior private equity experience to our team,” said Rogers, “We look forward to her continued contributions to KRG, and are delighted to welcome her and her family to Colorado and to our firm.” Prior to joining KRG, Ms. Cho was a Principal with The Wicks Groups of Companies, L.L.C., a New- York City-based, middle market private equity firm where she focused on leveraged buyouts of privately-held companies in the business services, marketing services and media industries from 2000-2011. Prior to joining The Wicks Group, Ms. Cho worked in various capacities at The Walt Disney Company, specifically with ABC, Inc., the ABC Internet Group and ESPN.com. Ms. Cho holds a B.A. in Economics and Japanese Studies from Wellesley College and an M.B.A. from The Amos Tuck School at Dartmouth College.

Damon S. Judd, Managing Director. Mr. Judd joined the Firm in 2004 as an Associate, and was promoted to Vice President in 2006, Principal in 2007, and Managing Director in 2012. Mr. Judd has worked extensively with a number of current and past KRG portfolio companies including PAS Technologies, The Tensar Corporation, Marquette Transportation, and several others. Mr. Judd is currently a director of Marquette Transportation, a Specialty Finance Platform, PAS Technologies, and an Intelligent Transportation company. Prior to joining KRG, Mr. Judd was an Associate at The Cypress Group L.L.C., a New York based private equity fund. At Cypress, Mr. Judd focused on investments in the automotive, aerospace, defense and general industrial markets. Prior to working at The Cypress Group, Mr. Judd was an Analyst at J.P. Morgan in its Industrials M&A group. Mr. Judd earned a B.A. in Economics and Political Science from Yale University and received his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
Michael Z. Barkin, Principal. Mr. Barkin joined the Firm in 2006 as an Associate, and was promoted to Vice President in 2007 and Principal in 2012. Mr. Barkin primarily focuses on the healthcare, distribution and business services sectors and currently serves on the board of directors of Fort Dearborn Company and Vention Medical. He was previously a director of PetroChoice and a regular board observer of Liberty Dialysis before the sale of each company in 2012. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Barkin was an Associate at Bain Capital, a Boston-based private equity firm, and an Associate Consultant in the Private Equity Group of Bain & Company, a strategy consulting firm in Boston. Mr. Barkin graduated with honors from Williams College with a B.A. in Economics and received his M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
Colton J. King, Principal. Mr. King joined the Firm as an Associate in 2007, and was promoted to Vice President in 2008 and Principal in 2012. Mr. King currently serves on the board of directors of Ansira, OLSON and Focus and was also an officer and regular board observer of former KRG portfolio company Tronair. Prior to joining the firm in 2007, Mr. King worked for CHS Capital in Chicago, where he focused his investment efforts primarily on business services opportunities. Prior to working for CHS, Mr. King was an Analyst in Merrill Lynch’s investment banking practice. Mr. King graduated with honors from the University of Notre Dame with a B.S. in Preprofessional Studies and received his M.B.A. from the Kellogg School of Management.
Bennett R. Thompson, Principal. Mr. Thompson joined the Firm as an Associate in 2007 and was promoted to Vice President in 2008 and Principal in 2012. Mr. Thompson has focused primarily on the healthcare services, distribution and business services sectors and currently serves on the board of directors of AllPoints, Aurora Diagnostics and Federal. Mr. Thompson was also an officer and regular board observer of Avizent prior to its sale in 2011. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Thompson was a Vice President with Heritage Partners, a Boston-based, middle-market private equity firm where he focused on investments in the business services, distribution, healthcare and media markets. Previously, Mr. Thompson was an Analyst with Harris Williams & Co. where he completed numerous middle-market merger and acquisition advisory assignments across a broad range of industries. Mr. Thompson graduated from Washington and Lee University with a B.A. in Economics.
